Cardiologist Anush Avetisyan told Life.ru that rapid heartbeat is not always associated with cardiovascular diseases, and in some cases the causes of tachycardia may not be so obvious.
As the expert noted, the normal pulse rate fluctuates between 60 and 90 beats per minute, but under stress, emotional tension or physical exertion, this figure can temporarily exceed 100 beats, which is considered a physiological response of the body.
Among other causes of rapid heartbeat, the specialist singled out an increase in body temperature, and she also pointed out that tachycardia can be accompanied by a hypertensive crisis, in which blood pressure increases sharply. A similar symptom can also be observed with anemia, when the level of hemoglobin in the blood is low, Avetisyan continued.
In addition, the cardiologist drew attention to the fact that some people may experience increased heart rate after a large meal, when abusing strong coffee or energy drinks, when intoxicated, and when smoking. The publication's interlocutor warned that tachycardia may also be a side effect of a number of medications.
According to the expert, in patients with heart disease, rapid heartbeat can become a factor that aggravates the course of the disease, and in such cases, it can reduce the efficiency of cardiac activity and accelerate the development of heart failure. The doctor added that if tachycardia is not caused by cardiovascular diseases, then, as a rule, in most cases, medical intervention is not required, but it is recommended to reconsider the lifestyle, quit smoking, reduce coffee consumption and exclude alcohol.
