In order to officially summon a citizen for questioning, law enforcement agencies are required not only to make telephone contact, but also to send a written summons; the absence of a document makes the call potentially fraudulent. This is evidenced by the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which RIA Novosti has reviewed.
The documents emphasize that attackers can impersonate police officers by sending SMS messages inviting them to interrogation, even including real department addresses.
A telephone call without subsequent receipt of a subpoena is not considered official. It is recommended to interrupt the conversation by requesting the sending of an official notification - a subpoena, the department warns.
