Vuzix Corporation, a leader in smart glasses and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, has announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art waveguide research and development (R&D) facility in Silicon Valley, California.

Vuzix Corporation announced today at 8:11 AM CT (9:11 AM EDT) the strategic acquisition of a specialized waveguide R&D facility in Milpitas, California. Previously operated by a global technology leader in software, AI and AR, the facility will become a key hub for Vuzix’s waveguide tooling innovation and development, focusing on the next generation of AI-powered smart glasses. The acquisition, estimated to cost in the low seven figures by 2025, includes state-of-the-art equipment such as an advanced ion milling machine, which will enable Vuzix to manufacture high-precision, high-quality waveguide tooling. This investment reinforces Vuzix’s role as a key technology enabler for the growing AI-enabled smart glasses market, allowing it to accelerate the design and development of compact, high-performance optical solutions for its OEM/ODM customers and manufacturing partners. The Silicon Valley location will also facilitate collaboration with major technology companies and access to specialized talent.
