Vuzix Corporation, a leader in smart glasses and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, has announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art waveguide research and development (R&D) facility in Silicon Valley, California.

Vuzix Corporation announced today at 8:11 AM CT (9:11 AM EDT) the strategic acquisition of a specialized waveguide R&D facility in Milpitas, California. Previously operated by a global technology leader in software, AI and AR, the facility will become a key hub for Vuzix’s waveguide tooling innovation and development, focusing on the next generation of AI-powered smart glasses. The acquisition, estimated to cost in the low seven figures by 2025, includes state-of-the-art equipment such as an advanced ion milling machine, which will enable Vuzix to manufacture high-precision, high-quality waveguide tooling. This investment reinforces Vuzix’s role as a key technology enabler for the growing AI-enabled smart glasses market, allowing it to accelerate the design and development of compact, high-performance optical solutions for its OEM/ODM customers and manufacturing partners. The Silicon Valley location will also facilitate collaboration with major technology companies and access to specialized talent. CEO Paul Travers emphasized that "AI and AR are rapidly converging, and Vuzix is ​​positioned to lead this evolution."
