Resident Artists Kany García and I mourn the death of Pepe Mujica.

Puerto Rican artists René Pérez , known as Residente , and Kany García mourned the death of former Uruguayan president José " Pepe " Mujica on Tuesday afternoon, who died today in Montevideo at the age of 89.
" Pepe ... You made us think, you made us believe, and you taught us to understand the complexities of life in a simple way: by living it. You gave us so much that we will spend years and years studying you, writing to you, reading you, rhyming to you," Residente declared on his Instagram account, alongside a video of his meeting with Mujica.
"I wish I had a little of your courage to live as freely as you. I'm going to miss you so much. You can't imagine how much," the rapper and songwriter concluded.
For her part, Kany García wrote on her Instagram story: "Goodbye Pepe."
José Alberto Mujica Cordano , known as Pepe Mujica , is considered one of the leading figures of the left in Latin America. He was part of the Tupamaros guerrilla group and served as president of Uruguay between 2010 and 2015.
In April 2024 , Mujica announced at a press conference that he had been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his esophagus.

- Over the months he underwent treatments and even surgery , and last January the former president reported that the cancer had spread to his liver .
Earlier this year, the former president participated in several public events , including a tribute paid to him by the Broad Front and a meeting organized by the Colorado Party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the return of democracy.
