Amaury Sánchez presents Beethoven

Amaury Sánchez presents Beethoven

"Todo Beethoven " is the new artistic production that maestro Amaury Sánchez will present on June 11, at 8:30 pm, in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, together with the Santo Domingo Philharmonic Orchestra .

Comprised of 70 musicians, the Philharmonic will perform a tour of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven , marking the beginning of a series of concerts to be presented at both the National Theater and the Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago.

Two great symphonies

"The concert is very special because it doesn't have soloists, but it does feature two of the composer 's great masterpieces: the Fifth Symphony in C minor and the Seventh Symphony in A major," explained Amaury Sánchez.

This event is part of a series the maestro has dubbed "all something," a collection of monographic concerts dedicated to specific composers .

"The concept is to present complete programs dedicated to a single composer, as in this case, Beethoven . But we will also have concerts with Latin American and Dominican repertoires, in which we will combine classical and popular music," he explained.

In addition to the classical concerts , Sánchez emphasized that the Santo Domingo Philharmonic will also host popular projects. "This year, we will perform four major classical concerts , in addition to the popular presentations we bring to the neighborhoods with the Ministry of Culture , combining symphonic music with popular timbres and our traditional music ," he said.

These concerts will include works by Dominican composers such as Julio Alberto Hernández, Bienvenido Bustamante, and José D. Cerón, as well as popular pieces adapted to symphonic format. A dedicated symphonic concert of Latin American music is also being planned.

In his role as Deputy Minister of Culture , Amaury Sánchez revealed an intense agenda of artistic and educational activities .

Currently, the Vice Ministry is coordinating a series of concerts under the "Koribe Colonial" program, which includes walking tours of the main historical monuments of the Colonial City.

"We've already performed two concerts with tours that included the Ozama Fortress, the Casa del Cordón , the Amber Museum, and the Museum of the Royal Houses," he noted.

The program also included participation by the Children's Choir, groups from private schools, and the Dominican Orchestral Theater. Upcoming events include a tribute to mothers at the Cibao Theater (May 18) and a cultural event in Puerto Plata Park (May 24), featuring living statues, retreats, artists, and musical performances.

Beethoven 's legacy

Referring to the composer who starred in the inaugural concert, Amaury Sánchez said: "I'm a Beethovenian."

He added that "his nine symphonies are a summit of human music ," which has proved vital to the development of classical music .

"I deeply admire the essence of his music , since he was the one who laid the foundations of Romanticism. His symphonies , particularly the so-called "new symphonies," have been described by many as some of the greatest works ever written by humanity."

Amaury is convinced that Beethoven is the most important musician in history.

  • "His legacy is not limited solely to his compositions, but also to his personality and his unwavering spirit of perfection. When he was not satisfied with a work, he would revise and transform it as many times as necessary. A clear example of this is the Leonora Overture, of which there are fourteen different versions. All of them arose from his opera Fidelio, which he even changed the name of, without ever feeling completely satisfied with his overture," commented the maestro.

The prolific German composer and pianist, Ludwig van Beethoven achieved perfection in symphonies such as the Fifth, Seventh and Ninth.

"It's truly extraordinary. The Ode to Joy, written completely deaf , is an almost miraculous achievement. All of this is evidence that Beethoven embodies tenacity, respect for art, and the human capacity for constant innovation. He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest pillars in the history of music ," he concluded.

Academic reforms and orchestra system

One of the Vice Ministry's main projects is the transformation of the music education system. "We are working to expand the academic offerings of the National Conservatory of Music to the intermediate level, which will allow it to be academically recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education," Sánchez announced. Likewise, work is being done to rehabilitate the national youth orchestra system, based at the Conservatory and chaired by Maestro Federico Méndez. Also planned is the reactivation of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as the creation of five new rondallas (string groups) that will serve as a catalyst for choral and musical development in different regions of the country.
