Technology will extend the life of wind turbines

Technology will extend the life of wind turbines

As stated in a press release, the partnership between Eurowind Energy and the Bydgoszcz University of Technology aims to develop innovative solutions in the field of renewable energy sources. The university's partner is a research team led by Professor Maciej Dutkiewicz, Dean of the Faculty of Civil, Architecture, and Environmental Engineering at the Bydgoszcz University of Technology, who specializes in technical diagnostics and dynamic systems modeling.

Monitoring turbines can help increase their efficiency

The aim of the project is to monitor and diagnose the technical condition of wind turbines , including increasing the efficiency of turbines, reducing their wear and tear, and early detection of potential failures.

The wind turbine monitoring system analyzes a number of parameters, such as vibrations and tilts , rotor and generator rotational speed, blade pitch, turbine deflection relative to the wind direction, climatic conditions (wind, temperature, icing), which allow for the assessment of the technical condition of the facility.

"Thanks to the models used, the system enables not only the assessment of the turbine's current technical condition, but also the prediction of its wear and potential future damage. Furthermore, the vibration damping systems developed as part of the project can significantly extend the lifespan and increase the efficiency of turbines ," said Maciej Dutkiewicz, Dean of the Faculty of Civil, Architecture and Environmental Engineering at Bydgoszcz University of Technology.

The development of local competences is an important aspect of the energy transformation

"Eurowind Energy and Bydgoszcz University of Technology want to jointly support the development of modern and green technologies, share knowledge, and build local competencies needed during Poland's energy transformation. Combining industry experience with the scientific potential of universities is the best way to achieve real and necessary changes, both for the environment and the economy," said Małgorzata Szambelańczyk, CEO of Eurowind Energy, in a press release.

We invite you to read our interview with Małgorzata Szambelańczyk , in which the president of Eurowind Energy in Poland talks about the behind-the-scenes construction of the first stage of wind energy in Poland a dozen or so years ago, shares her concerns about the amendment to the Wind Mill Act, and presents her position on the Eurowind Energy "Energy Forest" project - a plan to build 250-meter wind turbines in forest areas, in cooperation with the State Forests.
