As reported by Axiom Space, the Ax-4 mission crew, including Polish citizen Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, will be welcomed to the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday at around 3:10 p.m. Polish time. The docking and welcome ceremony will be broadcast by Axiom Space, SpaceX and NASA.
In a statement posted on the Axiom Space website Wednesday, the capsule is scheduled to make contact with the ISS docking port at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), or 1:00 p.m. Eastern European Time. Docking is expected to be complete at 7:13 a.m. EDT.
At 8:40 EDT (2:40 p.m. in Poland), after the pressure between the station and the capsule has equalized, the hatches will open. Half an hour later, there will be a ceremony to welcome the four Dragon passengers by the astronauts already on the ISS (there are currently four people in the American part and three in the Russian part).
As stated in a press release by Axiom Space, two hours before the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft docks with the ISS, at approximately 5:00 a.m. EDT (11:00 a.m. in Poland), the event will be broadcast online.
“Watch the crew’s arrival at the International Space Station live at axiom.space/live, spacex.com/launches and on NASA+. The Ax-4 webcast will cover the spacecraft’s approach and docking, as well as the crew’s arrival at the space station, where they will be welcomed in a welcoming ceremony,” the release said.
On Wednesday at 8:31 a.m. Polish time (2:31 a.m. EDT) a Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule were launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida (USA). Four members of the Ax-4 mission crew are on board, including a Pole, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski.
Since approximately 8:40 a.m. the capsule has been in Earth orbit at an altitude of 198 km and is moving at a speed similar to the ISS, i.e. 27,000 km/h. (PAP)
