Four live broadcasts from the International Space Station have been planned, during which Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will perform educational shows. At the end of the mission, an evening wave to the Polish astronaut on the ISS is planned - Anna Bukiewicz-Szul from POLSA informed PAP.
The broadcasts, so-called In-Flight Calls, will take place in four cities: Łódź, Wrocław, Rzeszów and Warsaw.
"We want to make some noise around this mission and reach as many young people as possible," emphasized Bukiewicz-Szul, who coordinates educational activities within the IGNIS mission.
She admitted, however, that the delay in the launch of the mission made it difficult to organize educational activities – students are starting their vacation, which reduces attendance at these events. “It was supposed to be different. We feel a bit dissatisfied that we didn’t manage to hit the school year, because then the impact (of the educational IGNIS mission) would have been much greater,” she added.
Children from orphanages and camp participants were invited to participate in the summer events. All events will also be broadcast online.
The launch delay also has a positive effect: it will allow observation of the evening ISS flights over Poland. They will become more frequent in July - especially towards the end of the mission.
"We are entering a period when the station will be visible to the naked eye in the night sky," the interviewee told PAP. POLSA is therefore planning an evening event during which participants will gather to wave to Sławosz, and he will take a photo from the ISS of him waving to them from orbit. The date of the event has not yet been set.
Anna Bukiewicz-Szul reminded that as much as 20% of the mission time was allocated to educational activities. Special teaching aids were also sent to the ISS, including Newton's cradle, a chain fountain and equipment for learning soldering. As part of the educational program, 10,000 schools in Poland will receive teaching kits for learning electronics and soldering, along with methodological support.
