Rafa Nadal adds another major title to his successes. This time, he received it from the hands of the King himself

Rafael Nadal is an appreciated athlete all over the world, and especially in his homeland. His name is a recognized brand. It is no wonder that the outstanding tennis player received another award - this time from the hands of ... the reigning king of Spain.

Philip VI of the Bourbon dynasty awarded Nadal the title of Marquis of Llevant de Mallorca for his services to the state and his sporting achievements. In addition to the multiple champion Roland Garros, the noble group was joined by, among others , pop and rock singer Luz Casal and five-time Paralympic gold medalist in swimming Maria Teresa Perales .

It is worth noting that the title of marquis is higher in the hierarchy than an earl, but lower than a duke , and is hereditary. This means that Rafa's descendants will also be able to take on this prestigious title. The event took place on the occasion of the jubilee anniversary of the monarch's reign.

Interestingly, a similar honour was recently bestowed upon football star David Beckham in the UK. The Englishman was knighted by King Charles III last weekend.

Rafael Nadal distinguished on Philippe Chatrier's court

Let us recall that a month ago, Rafael Nadal received another award. The undisputed king of the Parisian courts was commemorated during a special ceremony at the Philippe Chatrier stadium with a unique plaque featuring the imprint of the Manacor player's shoe.

Rafael Nadal ended his successful career last year. The 39-year-old from the Iberian Peninsula has 22 Grand Slam tournament triumphs and two Olympic gold medals in his portfolio.
