Full hotels are just the beginning. This region in Egypt is under siege

Taba, an Egyptian resort located on the Sinai Peninsula right on the border with Israel, has been experiencing a real siege in the last week. According to Hurghada24.pl, the occupancy rate of local hotels on the Gulf of Aqaba has increased by 300 percent in just six days. All this is happening not because of the tourist boom, but because of the armed conflict between Israel and Iran. It is to Taba, through the resort of Eilat, that Russians are fleeing from Israel.

Storming of Egyptian hotels

Before the weekend, hotel occupancy in Taba did not exceed 15 percent, and today 60 percent of beds are already occupied. Such a huge increase in a very short time is not caused by the approaching high season. The reason for this unusual situation is the mass escape of residents and tourists from Israel, who are looking for a safe place to wait out the shelling. Taba has the necessary infrastructure for this, but such traffic at this time of year is quite surprising for hoteliers. There are huge traffic jams on the border of both countries - according to the alarabiya portal, they are mainly Europeans who normally stay in Israel.

The siege is temporary

The head of the Nuweiba and Taba Tourism Investors Association reassures tourists. Sami Suleiman believes that the current rapid influx of people into the territory of South Sinai is only temporary. The influence that people seeking to escape from Israel have on hotels located closest to the border crossing will soon weaken, and the facilities will resume normal, fully touristic operations.

Temporary guests usually do not stay in Taba for long. Long coach convoys usually stop here for only a day or two, and then head to Sharm el-Sheikh, where organized air transport awaits them. According to Hurghada24.pl, now almost a hundred planes land at the Sharm el-Sheikh airport daily.
