They debated about work in culture

Dr. Sylwia Olszewska, business psychologist, spoke about social relations in the workplace during her lecture.

On Monday, May 5, the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin hosted the conference "Culture under pressure". Artists, psychologists, officials and lawyers discussed what work in the cultural sector looks like and should look like. The media patron of the event was "Kurier Szczeciński".

- We organized the meeting together with the State Labor Inspectorate - says Katarzyna Plater-Zyberk from the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin. - We investigated whether in the cultural sector, as in other professions, phenomena such as mobbing or professional burnout occur. The debate consisted of short 15-minute speeches by invited speakers, as well as an open discussion, which we planned at the end. The discussion was attended by, among others, Adam Opatowicz, director of the Polish Theater in Szczecin and Magdalena Wilento from the Szczecin Philharmonic.

During the debate, an important topic raised by the speakers was the issue of social relations in the workplace.

- My speech concerned the fact that in the workplace we often enter various roles, sometimes bad for us, toxic ones - says dr Sylwia Olszewska, business psychologist. - These are the roles of the persecutor, victim or savior. The role of the savior does not have to, but it can become a negative thing, because the person who enters this role may take on too much, and therefore, over time, they themselves may become a so-called persecutor. It may happen that they no longer want to help the person with whom they entered this relationship. It is worth noting that we often enter the roles of the savior, persecutor or victim unconsciously, although of course it also happens that we are aware of it. ©℗
