Summer film screenings are back. The city is looking for locations

“Cinema on Deckchairs” takes place every year from June to September. These are outdoor film screenings in Szczecin housing estates organized by Żegluga Szczecińska. The event will continue this season, but both the repertoire and locations will be announced in mid-May.

The outdoor cinema takes place in various districts of the city, and admission to all screenings is free. Popular productions dominate among the films.

As Celina Wołosz, spokesperson for Żegluga Szczecińska, assures, “Cinema on Deckchairs” is currently being prepared. Film screenings in Szczecin housing estates will take place as in previous years.

– “Cinema on Deckchairs” will start on the last Thursday of June and will last until September 3rd – he informs. – There will be ten screenings, but the repertoire and full schedule are still being determined until mid-May.

The exact locations of the screenings are not yet known. In previous years, they were held on both the left and right banks. City councilor Małgorzata Wleklak is appealing for the event to be held in the right bank of the city.

– In previous years, Szczecin residents had the opportunity to attend about 10 screenings per season organized in the city, of which 2-3 took place on the right bank. In 2024, the outdoor cinema was hosted in the Zdroje, Majowe and Wielgowo housing estates – recalls Małgorzata Wleklak.

The Civic Coalition councillor calls for the organisation of at least three screenings as part of the project in the Dąbie, Słoneczne and Kijewo estates.

– In Dąbie they could take place at the municipal swimming pool – which has already happened in the past, or in new locations such as: the area around Kolorowa Karina or in the park on Płonia by the medieval wall. On the other hand, in the Słoneczne housing estate a good location would be the area around Rubinowy Staw on the square by the Independence Monument, and in Kijewo the area around Jeleni Staw – he suggests.

The organizers are already working on selecting and determining the locations for “Cinema on Deckchairs.”

– Currently, visits to potential project locations are underway – informs the deputy mayor of the city Marcin Biskupski. – This year's edition is planned to hold 2-3 dates on the right bank, while the exact locations will be provided in May after analyzing the conclusions from the inspection. ©℗
