Disliking a photo is considered violence! Social media has changed the perception of young people

The Violence Perception Survey was conducted bythe Ministry of National Education to examine the perceptions of violence, exposure to violence, and tendencies to use violence among secondary school and high school students.
According to Sabah newspaper, the data revealed how digital media has changed the nature of violence. According to participants, violence is most prevalent in digital environments. Students, who believe they are exposed to more online violence as they age, define deliberately disliking a photo on social media as violence.
Some of the findings obtained within the scope of the research are as follows:
Intentionally disliking a social media post was seen as violence by 16.6 percent of middle school students and 15.9 percent of secondary school students, and intentionally withdrawing a like from a social media post was seen as violence by 17.5 percent of middle school students and 17.3 percent of secondary school students.
Being removed from a group in a digital environment was described as violence by 88.5 percent of middle school students and 92.3 percent of secondary school students, and being excluded from a group in a digital environment was described as violence by 19.9 percent of middle school students and 21.8 percent of secondary school students.
