Istanbul Kent University students planted saplings

Istanbul Kent University President Prof. Dr. Necmettin Atsü, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Semahat Demir, Computer Engineering Department Head Dr. Lecturer Hülya Acar, Industrial Engineering Department Head Dr. Lecturer Mehmet Çelikyay, academic staff, and the first students of the faculty attended the event.
'AN ENGINEERING GENERATION WITH ROOTS IN THE CITY AND HORIZONS IN THE WORLD'In his assessment of the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Necmettin Atsü emphasized the importance of an environmentally sensitive engineering approach and said:
We value not only the production of knowledge and technology, but also the use of this knowledge for the benefit of humanity and nature. The first step taken by the first students of our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences in this meaningful event is a symbol of both academic and human awareness. Each sapling is the mark left on nature by a young engineer who looks to the future with hope.
'YOUNG ENGINEERS RAISED WITH NATURE CONSCIOUSNESS'Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Semahat Demir, touched upon the faculty's vision and made the following statement:
We don't view education as limited to classrooms; we value our students as individuals who learn, produce, and make a difference in every aspect of life. This event isn't just a sapling planting exercise; it's a lasting mark left on the future by our faculty's first students. We set out with the motto, 'The Leading Engineers of the Future Are in This City,' and these saplings will flourish thanks to the responsibility of these leaders.
'FUTURE ENGINEERS JOIN HAND FOR A GREEN Türkiye'Dr. Lecturer Hülya Acar, Head of the Computer Engineering Department, expressed the event's message regarding environmental awareness with the following words:
Our goal is not only to equip our students with technical skills, but also to foster environmental awareness and a sense of social responsibility. This event, held with our faculty's first students, is a call to all universities: As future engineers, let's embrace our country's green future.
'NEW SPROUTS, NEW HOPES'Dr. Mehmet Çelikyay, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, described the faculty's first event as "the beginning of a new tradition," saying:
"Today, we didn't just plant trees; we also planted hope for the future of our faculty. These saplings are the first symbols of our students' stories that will take root through knowledge and hard work. Each one represents our belief in a sustainable future."
Engineering students from various countries participated in the event, which was held under the motto "New Sprouts, New Hopes." The students planted plane tree saplings in a memorial forest created in honor of Mesut Yılmaz, the honorary founder of Istanbul Kent University and a former prime minister.
At the end of the event, the students promised to organize new events that combine environmental awareness and social responsibility as part of the "Trees Growing with the City" project, which is planned to become an annual tradition.
