While laying a gas pipeline in the suburbs of Lima (Puente Piedra district), workers came across a burial bundle, inside which was the mummy of a young woman aged 20-25. As reported by the gas company Cálidda , excavations were immediately suspended and archaeologists were called to the site.
Cálidda experts dated the find to approximately 1000–1100 years ago. Along with the remains, nine ceramic items were recovered – pots, jugs, bottles – and four calabashes containing crustacean remains.
Based on the characteristic black-and-white and three-color geometric patterns on the dishes, experts were able to attribute the burial to the Chancay culture. The abundance of utensils, according to archaeologists, indicates the high social status of the girl.
Previously, the remains of a mysterious woman were discovered at a garbage dump in Peru.
