Farmer makes unusual marriage proposal in giant cornfield

Farmer Tim Sullivan of Grove City, Ohio (USA) found an unusual — and grand — way to ask Caroline Liggett to marry him : he drew the message “Will you marry me, Caroline?” on a giant maze in the middle of a cornfield .
The idea came to Sullivan in April, when he used agricultural software, typically used to guide automated planting, to design the proposal. In early June, he set in motion: with the help of a team and a GPS-equipped tractor, he planted corn in a field measuring about 5 hectares, the equivalent of seven football fields.
A few weeks later, the message took shape and became visible from the sky. Sullivan told The Columbus Dispatch that he avoided social media for fear that someone would fly over the area, capture the image, and ruin the surprise.

The proposal was revealed during a flight Sullivan booked with Caroline, claiming he was interested in learning to fly. On the first flight over the plantation, she didn't notice the inscription. On the second, the farmer hid the ring in his pocket and got the expected reaction.
"I figured he'd do something planned, but not something so extreme," Caroline said, surprised by the gesture. In an interview with ABC6, Sullivan said she wanted to create an unforgettable moment: "I'll never forget her face when she realized what she was seeing."
The "I do" came soon after, and the couple officially announced their engagement on August 5, when Circle S Farms unveiled the design of their new corn maze for fall 2025.
Visitors can walk along the trails marked by the romantic message. "See you soon for a season full of fun, memories, and a little more love in the air!" the farm team wrote on social media.

Caroline, who works at a competing agricultural company, highlighted the location's symbolism: "It was perfect that the proposal happened in the middle of a cornfield." The wedding is scheduled for early 2026.
