Queer Lisboa has announced some of the programming for its 29th edition, scheduled from September 19 to 27, and among the films to be shown is 'Thesis on a Domestication', by Argentinian Javier van de Couter, starring trans writer Camila Sosa Villada and inspired by a novel of hers, published this year in Portugal.
This film will be in the 'Panorama' section, where Queer Lisboa also included the biopic 'Homem com H', by director Esmir Filho, about the Brazilian artist Ney Matogrosso. The film arrives at this festival after having already been available on streaming platforms.
Other choices in this section include the Italian documentary 'My Boyfriend el Fascista', in which director Matthias Lintner explores his relationship with his boyfriend, Sadiel Gonzalez, "a Cuban migrant in Italy and defender of far-right ideologies", and 'Peter Hujar's Day', an intimate film by Ira Sachs based on the book of the same name by writer Linda Rosenkrantz.
This year, the International Queer Film Festival, in partnership with the Cinemateca Portuguesa, will dedicate a retrospective to French filmmaker Lionel Soukaz, "an activist and a central and pioneering figure of the LGBTQIA+ movement in France" who died in February at the age of 71.
This director's films "reveal an uncompromising commitment to autobiographical storytelling and the expression of desire, and embody his limitless desire for freedom, which has led to the censorship of some of his works," Queer Lisboa states in a press release.
Queer Lisboa will take place at the São Jorge cinema and the Cinemateca Portuguesa.
