Aveiro joins ICOM as an institutional member

ICOM - International Council of Museums has decided to accept the candidacy of Aveiro City Council as its institutional member, as the entity responsible for Aveiro's museums. An international non-profit organization founded in 1946 and representing more than 50,000 members in 138 countries, including museums and industry professionals, ICOM plays a relevant and unifying role in the museum sector. The institutional membership of the Aveiro municipality reinforces the "national and international recognition of Aveiro's museums, valuing the work they have done, qualifying their equipment and technical teams, and contributing to the credibility of ongoing museum projects," the municipality explains in a press release.
This recognition «gains particular relevance in the current context of expansion of the municipal museum network, which includes the creation of the new Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art, the Museum of the Earth and the future complex of visitable reserves of the Museums of Aveiro in the Casa de Memória».
