Film about neo-fascist youth is nominated for an Oscar by Italy

The feature film "Family", by Francesco Costabile, was chosen to represent Italy in the race for the Oscar for best international film in 2026.
The decision was announced this Tuesday (23) by the National Association of Film and Audiovisual Industries (Anica), after a meeting of the selection committee in Rome.
"Family" won over 23 other competitors and will have the challenge of representing the country with the most statuettes in the category of best international film, with 14 wins, the last of which was in 2013, with "The Great Beauty", by Paolo Sorrentino.
A preliminary list will be released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, responsible for the Oscars, on December 16, 2025, while the nominees will be revealed on January 22, 2026. The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 15 of next year, in Los Angeles.
Based on a true story, "Family" was screened in the Horizons section of the Venice Film Festival in 2024 and follows the trajectory of Gigi (Francesco Gheghi), a young neo-fascist militant from a modest working-class family destroyed by domestic violence and who lives in the shadow of his criminal father, Franco (Francesco Di Leva). .
