A nursing center will be built at the Medical University of Białystok for PLN 52 million

The construction and equipment of a nursing center at the Medical University of Białystok will cost PLN 52 million. The university secured funding for its construction from the Nursing Operational Program (KPO); the building is scheduled for completion in February of next year, with classes beginning in October.
The university signed an agreement on granting this money with the KPO at the end of last week, the authorities of the Medical University of Białystok (UMB) announced on Monday at a press conference.
The Nursing Center is being built on the grounds of the University Clinical Hospital on Żurawia Street in Białystok. UMB Chancellor Konrad Raczkowski said on Monday that the center's construction will cost PLN 36 million, and its equipment will cost PLN 16 million. He added that PLN 43 million will come from the Nursing Operational Program (KPO), with the remainder coming from the university.
The Chancellor announced that the center is being developed using a design-build process, with completion scheduled for February of next year. Students are expected to use the center from October 2026.
It will be a four-story building with an area of 3,200 square meters. It will house lecture and seminar rooms, as well as a nursing simulation center.
As Professor Mateusz Cybulski, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, which oversees the nursing program, said, the simulation center will include practice rooms and high-fidelity rooms, as well as technical and nursing skills labs.
"All of these rooms will be prepared to conduct the OSCE exam, an objective, structured standardized exam that is now imposed by the new educational standard preparing for the nursing profession, including the practical diploma exam. This means the building will be 100% prepared for education in accordance with the new educational standard," Cybulski emphasized.
Rector of the Medical University of Białystok, Professor Marcin Moniuszko, emphasized that thanks to the center, a number of repeatable skills can and should be acquired in simulated conditions. He added that, alongside traditional forms of education, modern education is largely based on practice, including through simulation scenarios.
He added that the vast majority of funds raised to equip the center will be allocated to mannequins – both for basic nursing procedures and high-fidelity mannequins.
- And that is precisely the purpose of this, for students to first learn (...) how to perform these procedures on technologically advanced phantoms, so that later, once they know how to perform them technically, they can train on patients during practical classes and professional internships - said Moniuszko.
The conference also summarized this year's recruitment process at the Medical University of Bialystok, where students can choose from 16 majors. Moniuszko said that a record number of over 9,000 students applied, an increase compared to last year.
According to the university, the highest competition is in the medical-dental program, where there are 23 applicants for a spot, and in the medical program, where there are 18 applicants for a spot. The university also notes that nursing and physiotherapy programs are becoming increasingly popular, with several applicants seeking a spot. UMB has also increased its admission limits in these programs.
In addition to the Nursing Center, UMB is also building a Teaching and Examination Center with funds obtained from the Nursing Program. Construction will cost approximately PLN 140 million. The plan is for the first students to use the center in October 2026. (PAP)
