Giorgio Armani has died. The legendary fashion designer passed away at the age of 91.

Milan, September 4, 2025 – Giorgio Armani, the distinguished Italian fashion designer and founder of a global fashion empire, died today at the age of 91. The fashion house announced his death peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He remained devoted to his work until the end, engaging in his designs and collections until his final moments.

Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy. He initially studied medicine, but after three years he dropped out to complete his mandatory military service, during which he worked in a military hospital. After returning from the army, he became involved in fashion – first as a window dresser and then as a designer for the Italian fashion house Nino Cerruti.

In 1975 , together with Sergio Galeotti , his life partner, he founded his own brand – Giorgio Armani SpA . The company quickly gained notoriety for its innovative approach to men's elegance: slimming down the structure of suits and introducing a looser, softer cut, which revolutionized business fashion in the 1980s.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Armani became a pop culture icon. Richard Gere wore his suit in the film American Gigolo , and his style on TV stars, particularly those in Miami Vice, contributed to the brand's international fame.

Over time, the Armani empire expanded – in addition to the ready-to-wear collection (Emporio Armani, Armani Exchange), couture lines (Armani Privé), perfumes, cosmetics, as well as luxury hotels and restaurants were created.

Legacy and farewell

Armani was distinguished by his discipline and vision—he guided his brand with determination and consistency until the end of his life. Even in June 2025, for the first time in his career, he didn't attend a fashion show in Milan, but followed it remotely, monitoring the details via FaceTime.

His innovations in elegance, minimalism, and functionality forever changed the face of fashion. He collaborated with countless Hollywood stars and became recognized as a creative and business force of his time. He left behind a legacy that will inspire generations of designers.
