First Jesus, Now Dracula: 'Wicked' Star Isn't Afraid of Challenging Roles

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo is on the lookout for interesting acting challenges. After playing Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar, the multi-talented actress is now set to play Dracula on the West End stage. And that's not where she'll end up - Erivo is also set to play the other 22 roles in the stage adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel.

The producers behind the successful recent adaptation of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" starring Sarah Snook have announced new plans. A stage version of "Dracula" is set to hit London's West End next year. The legendary Transylvanian vampire will be played by Cynthia Erivo , who will play all 23 roles in the play, including the famous bloodsucker, according to Deadline.

It is already known that "Dracula" starring Erivo will be shown at the Noel Coward Theatre from February 4 to May 31, 2026. The adaptation of Stoker's novel and the direction of the performance will be handled by Kip Williams.

Erivo is a busy star whose performance in the musical film Wicked finally cemented her stardom. She is now just an Oscar away from achieving EGOT status.

Erivo’s enticement had been ongoing for nine months, during which she saw Williams’ previous production of “Dracula,” starring Zehra Newman . She also was captivated by Snook’s performance in a production of “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” which recently earned the “Succession” star an Emmy nomination. It gave Erivo a better understanding of the director’s vision and his ability to work with an actor playing multiple roles.

- They spent a lot of time with Kip talking about inspirations and dramaturgy. Their good rapport was most important to us. The new "Dracula" will not be a copy of Williams' previous version - explains Cassel, revealing that Erivo will sing one song in the performance, composed especially for her.

The roles he will play include Jonathan Harker, his fiancée Mina Murray, her friend Lucy Westenra, and Professor Van Helsing.

And in early August, Erivo will be heard at the Hollywood Bowl in several special performances of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," in which he will play the title role of Jesus.
