Premature ejaculation

Although often suffered in silence due to shame or ignorance, premature ejaculation is one of the most common male sexual dysfunctions . It is estimated that up to 4 in 10 men have experienced it at some point in their lives, either occasionally or recurrently . However, there are exercises that can alleviate this problem.

The truth is that, despite its high frequency, it remains a taboo subject, which makes it difficult to access clear information and effective solutions. However, far from being an intractable problem, in most cases it can be successfully treated with exercises that can be done at home, in private, and without the need for medication.

An article published by the EGR Institute of Medicine recommends the following key exercises to control ejaculation:

1) Kegel exercises for men : This is the most effective tool for those who want to improve ejaculatory control. They focus on strengthening the pubococcygeus (PC) muscle, which is involved in contraction during orgasm. To locate them, simply try to stop the flow of urine mid-urination: the muscles that are activated are the ones you should work. Repeat 5-second contractions, followed by 5 seconds of rest. Perform 10 to 15 repetitions, 3 times a day. Can be done anywhere and in any position: sitting, lying down, or standing.

2) “Stop and continue” technique: During stimulation (whether with a partner or alone), it is recommended to stop the activity just before you feel the point of no return. Wait about 30 seconds, breathe deeply, and then resume. This method trains awareness and control of the ejaculatory threshold.

3) Pressure at the base of the penis: During moments of high arousal, gentle pressure with your fingers at the base of the penis can interrupt the ejaculatory reflex. This technique requires practice, but it's useful as an emergency measure when control is lost.

4) Breathing control and relaxation : Premature ejaculation is often linked to anxiety. Practicing deep, conscious breathing during sex helps reduce physical tension and prolong the relationship.

While physical exercise is essential, specialists agree that emotional and sexual education also plays a key role. Communication with your partner, a guilt-free attitude, and greater awareness of your body are factors that strengthen treatment.

What is premature ejaculation and why does it occur?

Specialists define premature ejaculation as repeated ejaculation before or shortly after penetration , with little or no control. This pattern must be repeated over a sustained period to be considered a dysfunction. The causes can be diverse, and in many cases are related to psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, guilt, or sexual inexperience. To a lesser extent, physical factors may also be involved, such as hormonal changes, side effects of medications, or infections in the prostate or urinary tract. Although consulting a urology or sexology specialist remains the most recommended path, there are practical and safe exercises that can be performed at home as part of an initial or preventive treatment.
