Pension reform: Are already recognized pensions at risk? Colpensiones responded.

The Pension Reform (Law 2381 of 2024) , promoted by the Colombian government and approved by the Congress of the Republic, establishes a new pension management model that aims to guarantee a decent income for all Colombians. As a result, many citizens have begun to wonder if their current or future pensions could be at risk. This is Colpensiones' response.
In this context, the public pension administrator in Colombia confirmed that acquired rights remain unchanged, and assured that "neither the pension nor the monthly payments received during the year will change."
He also urged citizens to clarify any doubts and check the information available on the entity's official website: https://www.colpensiones.gov.co/.

As of July 1, the new pension system is structured according to a pillar-based scheme that aims to ensure a decent pension for the entire population, especially for older adults and historically marginalized workers who have not had the opportunity to save sufficiently for their retirement.
The four pillars ( contributory, semi-contributory, solidarity, and voluntary savings ) will make it possible to diversify the sources of financing and access to pensions, taking into account the different levels of protection and contribution capacity of citizens.
This eliminates competition between the Colombian Pension Fund (Colpensiones) and private funds, creating a collaborative system with the goal of optimizing and making pension administration more sustainable.(READ MORE: Take note: The 7 smells that snakes 'hate' and keep them away from everything )
