Bogotá's Metro 1 is here to change the way thousands of users travel. It's not only a modern and efficient transportation system, but also a driver of urban, social, and environmental transformation that seeks to make the city more accessible. How many people will be seated on these trains? This was the official confirmation.
The Bogotá Mayor's Office reports that Metro Line 1 will have 30 trains , each with six cars, with a capacity of 1,800 passengers, which today would require seven bi-articulated trains or 12 articulated TransMilenio trains.
Of this total, 252 will be seated, and 36 will be designated for priority seating, i.e., pregnant women, the elderly, and women with infants in their arms.
"The trains will operate at an average commercial speed of 42.5 km/h. They will initially operate with a 140-second interval and will be able to run in both directions, south-north and north-south, on separate tracks." (READ MORE: Scare them away from your home: What smell do cockroaches hate? )
How often will the trains run?Initially, trains will run with a 140-second interval between each train, in both directions (south-north and north-south). The system will feature platform doors synchronized with the train doors for greater safety, and a centralized signaling and control (CBTC) system. There will be closed-circuit television (CCTV) both in stations and on trains, and real-time information systems for passengers.
"The protections for the railway traction systems that will make up Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro are standardized under strict international regulations that guarantee human safety," the official report emphasizes.

The transportation system will be 100% automated and driverless. When the time comes, the trains will make test runs. "These tests verify that the train has the load capacity, for which sandbags are used, or preferably water tanks, because they most closely resemble the movement of the human body inside the train." The first train on Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro is expected to arrive in September, and with it, the corresponding technical testing will begin.
