CULIACÁN, Sinaloa (apro).- A Culiacán Municipal Police officer was killed after an armed attack on a patrol car, adding to a total of 14 intentional homicides in Sinaloa this past Friday, placing the state with the highest number of homicides that day.

According to the daily report on intentional homicides from the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Sinaloa was the state with the most intentional homicides, with 14, followed by Guanajuato, with 8, and Mexico City, with 6. In total, 70 homicides were reported nationwide.

The officer's murder occurred after a direct attack on a Municipal Police patrol car in the area known as KZ4, east of downtown Culiacán, at the intersection of Carranza Street and Madero Boulevard.

The agent, identified as Jorge Humberto, was 27 years old and died while receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.

Between September 2024 and March 2025, 22 local police officers were reported killed, a result of the drug war in Sinaloa due to the clash between the Mayos and Chapitos.

Furthermore, the Municipal Police remains without a director following the resignation of Sergio Antonio Leyva, after seven officers were arrested by the State Police and the National Guard for allegedly providing protection at a private clinic to an alleged criminal with a gunshot wound.
