Places in the world to roll out your mat and practice yoga

Places in the world to roll out your mat and practice yoga

From Rome to New York, from Milan to Vienna, from the Maldives to Sicily, from Courmayeur to San Vigilio di Marebbe: there are many events that associations, resorts and schools organize to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, which is celebrated all over the world on June 21, during the summer solstice. Yoga is an ancient discipline of Indian origin that aims to harmonize body and mind, through a series of techniques that range from fixed postures to those in movement, from breathing to meditation. For the occasion, here are some suggestions around the world that allow you to immerse yourself in beautiful places, reconnect with nature and dedicate yourself to this discipline that, if practiced regularly, gives health, well-being, calm and mental clarity.

In Rome, the free event is in Piazza di Siena, inside Villa Borghese, from 6:30 pm with the Yogis4Nature association, while in Milan the Yoga Festival is organizing an event, also free, at the Arena Civica Gianni Brera from 5 pm. The events in New York are in the most iconic places: Times Square is transformed into an open-air yoga studio with free sessions all day, while every evening until August 28, Brooklyn Flow is organizing free lessons, led by some of the best teachers in the city in Prospect Park. Vienna offers many suggestive settings in which to practice yoga: from the halls of museums to squares and along the river, but among the most unique experiences is the Vinyasa Flow lesson in the Hall of the Muses of the Albertina Museum, also scheduled for June 28, July 26 and August 2 and open to all.

Even in the mountains you are spoiled for choice: in Courmayeur, immersed in uncontaminated nature and surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Alps, you can take part in yoga courses open to all levels. The practice can be done throughout the summer: the Mont Blanc 2025 yoga school organizes lessons on July 29, August 5, 12 and 19 in the meadows of the Maison Vieille refuge, reachable by the Dolonne cable car or by chairlift. In July and August Vda Yoga offers lessons in various locations in Courmayeur, including the Maison Vieille itself, but also the historic center, the Abbé Henry Park and Auberge de La Maison. In San Vigilio di Marebbe, at the entrance to the large Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park, the Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort offers a 'sun salutation' on the Zen terrace, surrounded by a breathtaking view of the Dolomites. Throughout the summer, you can practice in a charming Mongolian yurt next to a stream, made available by the holistic health association. Here, teachers organize various workshops and courses, as well as yogasthenics, a hybrid fitness practice. Finally, the Yoga Festival takes place in the South Tyrolean town from 28 to 31 August. In Caminata di Tures in the Aurina Valley, yoga and meditation are practiced at the Olm Nature Escape, the first sustainable eco-aparthotel in South Tyrol, which is completely self-sufficient in terms of energy. In Switzerland, at the Six Senses Crans Montana, guests and locals are invited to participate in free yoga sessions and wellness activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that support the body, mind and spirit.

Even seaside resorts participate in Yoga Day for moments of well-being and meditation. The sea-view garden of Baglio Oneto dei Principi di San Lorenzo di Marsala organizes lessons in the midst of nature, for a unique experience that lasts throughout the summer. Among the proposals are also yoga sup at the Riserva Naturale dello Stagnone, muscle toning, swimming and bike excursions. Even in Lignano Sabbiadoro, the celebration is with yoga and odaka yoga meetings, which include fluid and harmonious movements, inspired by the movement of the ocean. The Friulian resort transforms in the summer into an open-air temple of well-being with metabolic walks, yoga sup and forest bathing. Bornholm, a Danish island 35 minutes from Copenhagen, hosts in one of its picturesque towns the Bornholm Yoga & Retreat Center, a place entirely dedicated to the care of the body and soul in direct contact with nature. Yoga is practiced on the beach and new breathing techniques are learned in the nearby woods and along the coast. In the Maldives, guests at Constance Halaveli and Constance Moofushi have access to the most qualified experts for yoga sessions, organized at sunrise and sunset. The lessons are individual or group, with a fusion of ancient and modern traditions to make your body breathe well-being, postural awareness and fitness. Yoga is also available for children aged 4 to 11 at Constance Coconut Tribe.
