In 2024, 38% of Italians committed audiovisual piracy

In 2024, 38% of the Italian adult population has illegally enjoyed, at least once, films, series/fiction, programs and live sporting events, with an overall estimate of approximately 295 million acts of piracy committed; 2.2 billion euros is instead the estimate of the turnover lost by the entire country system due to piracy with a loss of GDP estimated at 904 million euros and 12,100 jobs at risk. These are among the data from the latest edition of the Fapav/Ipsos study presented at the Specialization School for Police Forces, on audiovisual piracy in Italy.
"The phenomenon of piracy is probably in a phase of containment but it is still extremely and dramatically relevant. The authority blocks, at the request of the interested parties, of the rights holders, the contents on the internet, the illicit contents. 57% of the requests received concern audiovisual works and many reports are brought to us by Fapav", commented Giacomo Lasorella, president of Agcom.
