From today in the EU the sustainability label for smartphones

The obligation comes into force from today for those who sell smartphones and tablets in the European Union to insert the package also includes a label with an index of eco-sustainability. The devices will be regulated, in a manner similar to other products on the market such as televisions and refrigerators, from a dedicated evaluation system, which provides an explanatory letter of the energy impact. The initiative, articulated in EU regulations 2023/1669 and 2023/1670, aims to give consumers greater transparency and awareness on their technology purchases. The label will provide an immediate assessment not only of the energy efficiency class (on a scale from A to G), but also of the actual battery life under conditions of use intensive and its longevity, expressed in recharge cycles guaranteed before a drop below 80% capacity. Present also a repairability index, a score that evaluates the ease of disassembly, availability of spare parts and the presence of guides for the specific cell phone model or tablets, penalising those that hinder the replacement of components. Added to this is the reliability class to falls, based on standard tests from one metre height, and the indication of the degree of protection against dust and liquids (via the "ip" standard). To ensure traceability, each label will include a QR code linked to the Eprel register, a European database containing all the technical specifications and results of the tests performed.
