Walls and shadows, the true voices of Capri: an exhibition by Riccardo Esposito

by Marco Milano
The exhibition "Mura e Ombre" (Walls and Shadows), conceived by Riccardo Esposito, the publisher and writer, founder of the publishing house "La Conchiglia," has opened on Capri at the Serena Messanelli Zweig Foundation. "It's helpful to know how to read the layers of our walls," he explains. "It's helpful to know how to listen to the voices of our shadows." The opening has given way to a photographic exhibition featuring triptychs and diptychs of images printed on Forex, inviting visitors to rediscover the island in a new light. "Our walls become a tool for dialogue with our collective and personal past," comments Riccardo Esposito, ambassador of the island's culture, "an accumulation of mold, lesions, layers, and shadows that it is useful to know how to interpret and read in order to dialogue with them. And we all communicate with others also through our scars. We should have the ability not only to read these 'psychic stratifications' of the walls, these degradations and fractures, but also to 'repair' them, not by denying them, considering them 'disvalues,' but by extolling and promoting them as 'values.'" Starting from this statement, the exhibition project consists of panels designed for the occasion, arranged in a play of light and shadow, in line with the theme of the show, with the aim of piquing the visitor's curiosity, even encouraging them to guess the location of the wall immortalized by the artist. An invitation to rediscover the island in a new light. A hidden, veiled, shadowed Capri, portrayed by Riccardo Esposito. Images of an intimate island that shuns worldliness, luxury, and tourist crowds, to listen to its history, its nature, and its voice. "Mura e Ombre," sponsored by the Municipality of Capri, will be open to the public until August 29th, every day from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, except Tuesdays, at the Serena Messanelli Zweig Foundation at Via Monsignore Carlo Serena 5, Capri.
