Men-at-arms conquer the manor
ZAVATTARELLO (Pavia) A leap back in time among knights, ladies, and ancient traditions. Dal Verme Castle , built between the 14th and 15th centuries to dominate the valley and the village streets, welcomes visitors for three days next weekend with a total immersion in the charm, sounds, and flavors of the Middle Ages, including knightly tournaments , falconry displays, historical camps, costumed markets, and encounters with jesters, musicians, and men-at-arms, culminating in a grand finale with fireworks. The Medieval Days , featuring a food area and activities such as themed games for children and workshops for adults, will open at 10:30 a.m. There will also be the opening show in the square at 10:30 a.m., the knight's investiture (11:15 a.m.), and workshops, culminating in a lunch break and a performance by medieval musicians. Throughout the three days, visitors will have the opportunity to spend time face-to-face with falcons and other birds of prey in an educational course to discover the lords of the skies. The entire town center (admission €10) will be transformed into a medieval village lit by torches, with historical reenactments , armored tournaments, camps, and traveling shows taking place in every corner. Ferragosto in that corner of Oltrepò thus becomes not just a celebration but an experience to be enjoyed with all the senses, immersed in the colors of the banners, the clanking of armor, and the flavors of the past, such as the smell of freshly baked bread or the taste of dishes inspired by medieval tradition. And among period drapes and furnishings, by torchlight, you can savor ancient recipes served under a tent as in medieval tradition. Dinner at 7:30 pm, with musicians, jesters, and courtly tales, will allow anyone to feel like a lady or knight while wearing modern attire, keeping an eye on their cell phones. The event will conclude on Sunday at 11 pm after the fireworks display.
