Barasso - Maintenance work on the Cassini River and Via Campiglio to ensure hydrogeological safety in Barasso - - Varese News

The Municipality of Barasso has recently initiated and completed a series of land maintenance projects to mitigate the risk of hydrogeological instability, with particular attention to the Rio Cassini stream area and the residential area of Via Campiglio.

Cleaning of the Rio Cassini and the containment tanks

After an initial phase of intervention conducted by volunteers from the Valtinella Intermunicipal Civil Protection Department, a specialized company was commissioned to complete the cleanup work on the Rio Cassini stream, in the section from Piano delle Resinose to behind the nursery school.

The intervention included:

emptying the debris containment tanks, cleaning the riverbed,

the removal of weeds from the banks.

The cost of the project, approximately €10,000, was covered by municipal funds earmarked for land maintenance. This area is strategic from a hydrogeological perspective, as it represents the point of contact between the Campo dei Fiori natural area and the town of Barasso.

Securing Via Campiglio

Also yesterday, the tank and the selective weir installed last year under path 10, to protect the homes on Via Campiglio, were cleaned. In the same area, new jersey barriers will be arriving in the next few days. They will be placed on the sidewalk to direct rainwater, in case of heavy rainfall, towards the dispersion area created a month ago on the lawn of the sports center.

Additionally, a new drainage channel has been created midway along the road, further enhancing the area's water safety.

A €300,000 project for the safety of the stream

To ensure the overall safety of the stream in the municipal areas, the Technical Office has entrusted a hydraulic engineering firm with the final and executive design of the works, building on the feasibility study already completed last year.

The Municipality has also already submitted a request for funding to the Lombardy Region for an estimated €300,000.

Expenses outside the accounting block

The administration has emphasized that all the interventions fall under urgent and necessary public safety expenditures related to the mitigation of hydrogeological risks. Therefore, they are not subject to the municipal spending freeze imposed following the order to pay compensation for a cyclist who fell on a private road.
