Agrigento Archeoclub celebrates Andrea Camilleri's 100th anniversary, exploring culture and territory.
Porto Empedocle and Agrigento are preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Andrea Camilleri's birth with a rich program of events combining culture, art, and local development. The initiatives, promoted by the Agrigento branch of the Archeoclub d'Italia, are in collaboration with the Fondazione FS Italiane, the Municipality of Porto Empedocle, and the GAL Sicani.
September 5 – Presentation of the book “La mia Vigàta” by Lorenzo Rosso
The celebrations will kick off on Friday, September 5th with the presentation of Lorenzo Rosso's book La mia Vigàta – Con Andrea Camilleri nella città del Inspector Montalbano (VGS Libri), a tribute to the life and works of the great writer from Empedocle.
Opening of the FS building
Thanks to the support of the FS Italiane Foundation, the Archeoclub will have free use of a historic building at the Porto Empedocle train station. The handover of the keys, scheduled for the days immediately preceding the centenary, will mark the birth of a new permanent cultural center. Inside, an exhibition of previously unpublished documents and materials dedicated to Andrea Camilleri will be inaugurated, offering the public a privileged glimpse into lesser-known aspects of his life and literary output.
The Municipality of Porto Empedocle will ensure the maintenance of the building, thus making the space continuously usable.
The signage of the GAL Sicani
The Sicani Local Association will contribute to the celebrations by creating new tourist and commercial signage. At the entrance to the town, the words "Porto Empedocle – birthplace of Andrea Camilleri" will be displayed, a tangible and lasting reminder of the unbreakable bond between the writer and his city.
September 6 – “Camilleri: Colors, Notes, and Flavors”
On the centenary day, Saturday 6 September 2025, the FS building will host the artistic event “Camilleri: colours, notes and flavours” : an evening that will combine live painting, music and wine tastings inspired by Camilleri's narrative universe, transforming the memory of the Maestro into a multisensory experience.
"With these initiatives," says Angela Roberto, president of the Agrigento Archeoclub, "we want to pay homage to Andrea Camilleri through culture, art, and the local area, restoring places of memory to the community and creating opportunities for encounters that unite the literature, identity, and traditions of our land."
