Casteljaloux: a new training course in French sign language

The SEM 24/47 association, committed to the inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing people, will launch a new training course in Casteljaloux from September 28
Recognized as being of general interest and active since 2004, the SEM 24/47 association is strengthening its presence in Lot-et-Garonne with a new training course in Casteljaloux. During its executive board meeting on July 12, it announced the resumption of French Sign Language (LSF) training courses in several municipalities in the department.
In Casteljaloux, the "Base LSF" sessions will take place at the Foyer de l'Automne (Place Cardine), every second and fourth Saturday of the month, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., starting September 28. Initially scheduled for the 14th, the first session has been postponed to coincide with the Associations Forum on September 13, where SEM 24/47 will have a booth. The association will inform the public and members of the Amicale laïque, with which it has entered into a communications partnership. Supported by the Amicale's president, Raymonde Lafuente, and the Amicale's office, this initiative aims to introduce sign language and encourage registrations.
Raising public awarenessThe training is open to all, subject to an annual membership fee (15 euros for an individual, 25 euros for a couple) and a contribution of 15 euros for 20 hours of classes. SEM 24/47 volunteers teach the basics of LSF communication: posture, facial expression, everyday vocabulary, and discovery of deaf culture.
Among the association's other notable events was a film screening held on April 13 in Casteljaloux, followed by an introduction to French Sign Language (LSF). Led by Toinette Patru and several volunteers, this event raised public awareness of the realities experienced by deaf people.
