One in five workers feels that their job is damaging their mental health.

In an era where concepts like "emotional salary" are increasingly popular in the business world , the reality is that work remains one of the main burdens on the mental health of Spaniards.
This year, 22% of employees in Spain feel their health has worsened . The main cause is mental health, specifically conditions such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Half feel they have suffered from work-related stress in the last year, and one in four acknowledges that work frequently impacts their health.
Most people do not perceive the company's interest in their health. This is the conclusion of the 2025 Occupational Health in Companies Report , prepared by the business administration consulting firm Pluxee in collaboration with several of the leading private insurance providers in Spain (Asisa, Wellhub, Cigna, and Sanitas). Among other things, the document reveals that more than 10% of employees felt they needed sick leave due to anxiety or stress in 2025 but were hesitant to request it.
One of the critical factors is digital disconnection (or rather, the lack of it). A third of those surveyed say they have difficulty disconnecting at the end of the workday, and a similar percentage feel their sleep quality is compromised due to work-related issues.
Similarly, the study shows that the majority of employees in Spain do not perceive their employer's interest in their health , and that 72.5% do not have any emotional support resources provided by their organization.
The four-day workweek, a favorite among workersAside from the obvious impact this has on people's health, this situation also has economic consequences for companies. It's notable that 32% have considered changing companies due to work-related stress, and another third similarly admit to feeling less productive as a result.
From the workers' perspective, among the possible solutions, there is one clear favorite: the implementation of the four-day workweek . Other measures that workers would welcome include additional rest days and real work-life balance policies.
