Wild herb hikes instead of champagne chichi

Wild herb hikes instead of champagne chichi

When you drive into the Tegernsee Valley, you immediately understand why everyone wants to live here: Uli Hoeneß, Manuel Neuer, Hubert Burda. The lake, the mountain panorama, simply beautiful. You just have to be able to afford it. Along with Sylt, the area around Lake Tegernsee is one of the most expensive in Germany. There are enough luxury hotels here, catering to the average annual income, that transport their guests into this exclusive world for a few days.

Fortunately, there are other ways to experience Lake Tegernsee. The "Blyb. Hotel," pronounced "bleib," opening in summer 2023, focuses more on wild herb hikes than champagne showers. One of the co-founders is Moritz Meyn, known in Munich for his Michelin-starred restaurant "Mural." The food and wine are spot on, and regionality is emphasized. The fish comes from Schliersee, and apple juice is served at breakfast instead of orange. Only the sourdough bread travels from Vienna. Meyn and his colleagues spent six months renovating the 19th-century Bavarian villa, resulting in a harmonious blend of creaking floorboards and cool terrazzo floors, cozy bay windows, and austere designer lamps. Most of the time is spent in the 17,000-square-meter garden, playing boules, drinking beer, doing yoga with a view of the lake, or waiting for pizza from the bakery. There's also a sauna and a karaoke bar in the basement. Everything is very relaxed, even the room prices are reasonable by Tegernsee standards.
