Arriving at Helsinki Airport by car is not the most cost-effective way to begin your journey. Still, it is especially convenient for those living farther away, as driving directly from home to a parking spot is a straightforward option. Read our article to find out about the parking options at Helsinki Airport and nearby.
Parking Your Car for the Duration of Your TripIt's a good idea to compare Helsinki-Vantaa parking options well before your trip. The differences go beyond just parking prices. Some parking spots are closer to the Terminal, while others offer better weather protection or additional services. Instead of focusing solely on price, it makes sense to find a parking option that offers the best value for your specific needs.
Helsinki Airport no longer separates terminals for departures. All flights now depart from the former Terminal 2, which is now just called Terminal. This means travellers don’t need to worry about arriving at the right entrance at the airport.
Parking Areas at and Near Helsinki-Vantaa AirportSeveral parking options operated by different providers are available at the airport and nearby. The lots closest to the Terminal are run by the airport operator Finavia. These airport-owned, official parking areas offer the most convenience but are also the most expensive.
The most affordable airport-operated lots are quite a distance from the Terminal, so you need to allow some time to get there. In those cases, using third-party parking lots a bit further away can be a wise choice, as they usually offer shuttle transfers directly to the Terminal.
Airport-Owned Parking AreasHelsinki-Vantaa Airport has five airport-owned parking areas named P1 Premium, P2, P3 and P5.
P1 Premium is the top parking option. Located just 50 meters from the Terminal in a heated basement level, you can take an elevator directly from the garage to the Terminal. As expected, it is also the most expensive parking area at the airport.
The P2 lot is equally close but offers a cheaper option. It isn’t heated, and some parking spaces are outdoors on the roof.

P3 and P5 parking garages are slightly cheaper than P1 and P2 but still offer indoor parking. Their rooftop levels, however, are exposed to the weather. Among these, P5 is the closest to the Terminal. From P3, the walking distance to the Terminal is over 300 metres.

Flypark is a privately owned outdoor parking area located just outside the airport, with some higher-quality indoor spots available as well. It’s located only a 4-minute drive from the airport, at the corner of Ring III and Tuusulantie. It’s a good idea to reserve your Flypark spot online in advance to ensure availability and opening hours.

When your trip begins, you drive to Flypark at your scheduled time, park your car, and Flypark will take you to the Terminal at no extra charge. Plan about 20 minutes for parking and transfer. You can save time by upgrading to a premium service where Flypark parks the car for you. On your return, Flypark will pick you up from the Terminal once you notify them by SMS
Flypark offers four parking levels: Basic, Basic Plus, Comfort, and Lux. Basic parking is traditional outdoor parking where you park and retrieve your own car. Basic Plus allows Flypark to park your car near their info point, making it easier to find later, and they inform you of your car’s location. Comfort includes a car wash and keeps your car in a heated garage, where it waits after washing. The top Lux level offers storage in a warm, locked garage for your entire trip, including a car wash. All levels offer optional paid extras such as interior cleaning.

When you arrive at your scheduled time, park your car and take the free Lentoparkki shuttle bus to the Terminal. Allow about 20 minutes for parking and transfer. On your return, you can call the shuttle from bus stop 42’s info display at the Terminal, which also shows the bus’s real-time location.
Lentoparkki offers only outdoor parking without additional services.

When you return, notify GoParking 30 minutes in advance, and they will bring your car back to the same spot. You can also opt for a car wash as part of the parking service.

There’s no one-size-fits-all parking recommendation. If convenience is your priority, Finavia’s P1 Premium parking is your best bet. Your car is parked in the terminal basement, so the transfer takes just a minute. Of course, this prime location comes with a higher price.
If you’re on a tighter budget, third-party parking lots a little farther away are good choices. Lentoparkki, Flypark, and GoParking all offer solid long-term parking options. Lentoparkki is affordable but offers only outdoor parking. Flypark has various paid extra services, including indoor parking. With GoParking’s valet service, you can drop off your car directly at the Scandic Hotel near the Terminal; meanwhile, GoParking moves your car to another lot. Ultimately, choosing a parking area is about striking a balance between convenience, quality, and price.
Additional Services Offered at Parking LotsMany parking areas offer extra services you can purchase when you park. Some parking packages include extras at no additional cost.
- Parking the car on your behalf and storing your keys
- Charging
- Defrosting cars left outdoors before pickup
- Car wash and interior cleaning
- Jump-start assistance
Finavia’s own parking lots provide limited additional services. Their support mainly covers problem-solving and jump-start assistance. Third-party parking providers typically offer more extensive services.
Alternative Ways to Get to the airportIf your flight is during the day and you’re travelling from Helsinki’s metropolitan area or nearby towns, you have plenty of alternatives to driving. Helsinki Airport’s train station is inside the rocks beneath the terminals. You can easily reach it by commuter trains from Helsinki, Tikkurila, and many other stops. You can even combine a commuter train ticket with a long-distance train ticket without paying much extra. The metropolitan area also offers several bus routes that pass through suburbs and connect to the airport. Taking a taxi from Helsinki to the airport is another reasonable option.

Driving your own car makes sense if your flight departs very early or arrives very late. It’s also a good choice if you live in an area that’s hard to reach by public transport. Although parking can be pricey, it is usually less expensive than a long taxi ride.
