Ask any elder millennial and they'll tell you that the 2010s fashion trends were a lot of fun. Style bloggers ruled the internet and skinny jeans, striped tees, and sneakers were the go-to daily uniform, whether you were an “indie sleaze” fan or more into the twee look. We used flip phones or Blackberries, took pics on digital cameras or our Macbook PhotoBooth, and spent our allowance and paychecks on shiny leggings, bodycon dresses, and deep V-necks at American Apparel.
As a style writer who came of age during that period, there are certain 2010s trends that, even when they fell “out” of fashion, feel timeless—trends that can be easily updated for a new era or generation. I remember my mom laughing about my ‘90s-kid bellbottom jeans and smiley face T-shirts, which were directly inspired by the ones she wore in the ’70s, and now I know exactly how she felt about those trends coming back — I feel the same way when I see that bandage dresses and skinny jeans are “back.” The resurgence of these trends makes a compelling case for storing some of your favorite pieces from every decade so you can bring them back out for another round instead of buying new items to join in on the fun.
Ahead, we've rounded up a few 2010s fashion trends that are trickling back into the trend cycle, including a few that never really left in the first place and still feel “worth it” today.

Whether you were a pop-punk fan, a skateboarder, or an indie kid who listened to Belle & Sebastian and Vampire Weekend, you were probably wearing a pair of Old Skools. These classic sneakers transcend time and style; they work for everybody, look as good after years of wear as they do on day one, and can be mixed and matched with baggy jeans and slip dresses alike. Old Skools are a true shoe wardrobe essential and have been seen on stars like Rihanna and Emme Muñiz.

Ah, the skinny jean. It was the dominating denim silhouette of the late 2000s and most of the 2010s—the tighter, the better. Skinny jeans didn't fully leave or go “out” of style, though they were replaced by looser-fitting denim in the late 2010s and early 2020s, including vintage Levis, “mom jeans” or “dad jeans," and baggy fits. But the 2010s were all about the skinny, especially paired with simple sneakers, ballet flats, or ankle boots. We've been seeing the skinny jean resurgence on the runway, including at Burberry and Isabel Marant, as well as on the ever-stylish Hadid sisters, so it might not be a bad idea to pull your old favorites out of the closet once more.
3. Giant HandbagsNeil Mockford/Alex Huckle
"The bigger, the better" was our handbag philosophy back in the 2010s. If you could carry your entire life in your bag, that was exactly what you were gonna do! Fashion houses like Fendi, Givenchy, and Mulberry catered to the giant handbag obsession, and after the success of Michael Rider's first show for Celine, where he showed a revamped version of the extremely popular Luggage Bag, it certainly looks like we're heading back to Big Bag City.

If you were a millennial going out for the night or a young celeb on the red carpet circa 2012, chances are you were probably wearing a bandage dress. Everyone was wearing the Hervé Léger bandage dress… or the mall equivalent. (Some of us styled it with a blazer for a real business casual club outfit.) When paired with sky-high platform pumps and a bright matte lipstick, you were high fashion. The bandage dress, which disappeared in favor of roomier styles in the mid-2010s, is now headed for a comeback, but you can snag them on The RealReal for a great deal. We've seen them on Love Island star Leah Kateb and Kaia Gerber, so don't wait too long to get in on the trend!

One color ruled the 2010s: mint green! It was such a moment, showing up in your wardrobe (pastel skinny jeans, anyone?), decor, school supplies, and nail polish. (It was often paired with the other reigning 2010s color, coral.) Essie's sweet, light green Mint Candy Apple, which was released as part of their 2009 lineup, was massively popular and remains a favorite today.
6. Platform HeelsNeil Mockford
Heels of the 2010s were a statement: skyscraper high with a four-, five-, or six-inch heel, and an equally hefty platform base. Stars like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian were fans, wearing popular designer shoes like the YSL Tribute and sparking a major trend for work, parties, prom, and nights out. If you weren't going to break your ankle, you weren't in style!
Heel height got a lot lower in the early 2020s as people swapped their stilettos for flats and sneakers, but the platform Mary Jane trend seems to be paving the way for a return to the mega-high heel once more. Is it time for me to buy the Jeffrey Campbell Lita Boots I coveted back in 2011?
