Acun Ilıcalı appeared before the judge

Acun Ilıcalı, who is on trial for illegal betting, appeared before the judge with a request for a prison sentence of up to 5 years and 3 months for allegedly encouraging people by advertising illegal betting. Hull City Mayor Acun Ilıcalı gave his first statement to the prosecutor in the context of the case opened in connection with illegal betting advertisements.

The investigation, which was launched after allegations that illegal betting content was included in some football matches broadcast on TV8 and Exxen platforms, had a wide repercussion in the media sector.

MY MONTHLY INCOME IS 5 MILLION Ilıcalı, who initially used the term “variable” regarding his income declaration in his statement, later updated this range to between 1 and 5 million TL. However, the most striking part was Ilıcalı’s statements expressing his surprise and sadness regarding the case.

“I have been in shock about this case for months. We have no chance of technically intervening in the matches we broadcast. This system has been working like this for 8-10 years,” said Ilıcalı, noting that they acquired the match broadcasting rights in accordance with UEFA procedures and that no broadcast manipulation was possible.

"IT IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ENCOUNTERED THEM" Ilıcalı stated that they did not think they were responsible for the case, but despite this, he was ready to take ownership of the process and said the following:

This is the first time I have encountered such an accusation. This situation both saddens and wears me out. I believe we are innocent, but the responsibility still lies with me. I also apologize to my colleagues with whom I worked during this process. Ilıcalı also added that the entire process regarding national match broadcasts was carried out on legal grounds and that they respected the judicial process.

THE CASE WAS POSTPONED The illegal betting case filed against Acun Ilıcalı was postponed until November 25.
