A Nazi past has been discovered in a relative of the new head of British intelligence MI6, Blaise Metreveli. We are talking about her grandfather Konstantin Dobrovolsky, the Daily Mail reports.
According to the publication, Dobrovolsky Sr. was born in 1906 in the Chernihiv region to a German of Polish descent and a Ukrainian woman. The family estate was confiscated after the revolution. In 1926, he was sentenced to ten years of exile for anti-Soviet propaganda, anti-Semitic views, and concealing his social origin.
Returning in 1937, he studied engineering economics in Vladivostok, and with the outbreak of war was sent to Dnepropetrovsk to purchase equipment. Dobrovolsky managed to get sent to the front, where on August 4, 1941, he went over to the Nazis.
He served in the SS Panzer Division. The publication mentions his letters to the German command, signed with a Nazi salute. In the letters, the author boasted of his personal participation in the "extermination of Jews" and reprisals against partisans. The publication also points to his nickname "Butcher".
The EAD resource confirms the Nazi connections of the ancestor of the head of MI6, but gives a different surname - Metreveli David Mikhailovich. Citing historian Alexander Dyukov, the publication reports that this man was captured in 1942 near Kharkov, later trained Caucasian collaborators and taught them radio work.
The date and circumstances of Dobrovolsky's death are unknown. It is mentioned that his details appeared in a 1969 Soviet book on the search for war criminals.
The author notes that although Metreveli never met her grandfather, his connection with the Nazi regime calls into question her impeccable reputation.
Recall that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer appointed the first woman to head MI6. Blaise Metreveli holds the post of Director General for Technology and Innovation in the service, having previously headed a unit in MI5.
