About 10 thousand residents of Alaska (the state's population is more than 740 thousand people) consider themselves Russian. Anna Vernaya, the head of the Russian Cultural Center in Alaska, told Rossiya 24 about this.
"If you look at the data [official - MK note] of the state of Alaska, there were about 10 thousand Russians who wrote that they were of Russian origin. And of course, there are a lot of Russian speakers. We have practically [represented - MK note] representatives from all over the former Soviet Union: Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Armenians, Georgians, that is, quite a lot," noted the head of the Russian Cultural Center in Alaska.
According to Vernaya, the Russian-speaking community jokingly calls itself a "mini-Soviet Union" and lives in harmony. Russian speakers in Alaska always celebrate holidays together.
