Chemist Andrey Dorokhov warned summer residents about dangerous toxins that can harm people and the environment when trying to get rid of certain categories of household waste using an open fire. The specialist shared details during an interview with the publication Gazeta.ru.
"When plastic waste burns, furans are formed - persistent organic pollutants. These compounds are classified as supertoxicants... The burning of linoleum and other polymer coatings, which release hydrogen chloride and dioxins, is especially dangerous," Andrei Dorokhov was quoted in Gazeta.ru.
The expert added that microparticles of hazardous compounds and toxic elements can enter the lungs and also accumulate in the body's tissues.
Andrey Dorokhov emphasized that burning such categories of waste is ineffective. The chemist noted that the remaining toxic compounds settle in the soil and pollute the water.
The issue of the correct use of open flame sources without harm to oneself and the environment remains relevant for many summer residents. Earlier, Russian parliamentarians reminded about the standards that should be observed when disposing of household waste using a fire on a personal plot.
