ASAE dismantles four illegal casinos in the North region

The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) dismantled four illegal casinos and arrested 25 people in the municipalities of Porto, Vila Real and Braga, it said on Tuesday.
In a statement, ASAE explained that the four casinos operated clandestinely and in restricted access spaces, inside restaurants and cafes.
In these places, games such as poker, mahjong , slot machines , Russian roulette and online betting were played, involving large amounts of money, he said.
In this sequence, 25 people were arrested and subject to Identity and Residence Terms (TIR) and another nine were identified, he highlighted.
ASAE also noted that 31 criminal proceedings were instituted for the crimes of operating games of chance outside legally authorized locations and illegal gambling.
Various equipment was also seized, including 36 gambling machines, nine professional gaming tables, five electronic devices, 2,900 gaming chips and various documents.
This operation to combat illegal gambling, dubbed Shadow Bet , took place in recent months, ASAE added.
“ASAE will continue to develop actions to combat and repress illegal gambling and related crimes, combating and attempting to alleviate the resulting social problems,” he concluded.
