Oeiras. IL once again nominates Bruno Mourão Martins

Manager Bruno Mourão Martins will once again be the Liberal Initiative (IL) candidate for the presidency of the Oeiras City Council in the next local elections, the party announced on Sunday.

The IL National Council decided that the party will run on its own lists in the municipality of Oeiras (Lisbon district) and the candidate will once again be Bruno Mourão Martins, who had already been the head of the list in this municipality in the last local elections , in 2021, the first in which this political force ran, an official source from the party confirmed to Lusa.

Quoted in a statement sent to Lusa by the candidacy, Bruno Mourão Martins said that his commitment is to “return Oeiras to its original position” , and that he wants to “return to the municipality the ambition and hope that were once its trademarks”.

“Oeiras was once a land of innovation, prosperity and quality of life, but it is impossible to deny that in recent years our municipality has lost dynamism and has settled into the routine management of an executive with no vision for the future. Oeiras has lost its leadership and risks falling behind if there is no profound change in municipal management”, argued the candidate.

The liberal accused the current executive, led by Isaltino Morais, of inertia , stating that “the ambitious projects that once boosted Oeiras were replaced by pharaonic works, such as the municipal tower, or by social media campaigns that exclusively aim at the personal promotion” of the mayor.

The 48-year-old manager is one of the founders of IL. He was a member of the boards of Carlos Guimarães Pinto, João Cotrim Figueiredo and Rui Rocha. He was also a member of the party's Jurisdictional Council and, at the last convention in February, he was elected to the National Council on the list that came in second place, headed by Pedro Ferreira, the current president of that body.

Bruno Mourão Martins is the director of a business management consultancy firm. His academic background includes a master's degree in business sciences and a postgraduate degree in prospecting, strategy and innovation from ISEG.

The same note indicates that the head of the IL list for the Municipal Assembly of Oeiras will be Anabela Brito, a businesswoman in the real estate sector.

The candidate replaced the parliamentary leader, Mariana Leitão, as municipal deputy of Oeiras in January last year. In the party, she is part of the local coordination group of the territorial nucleus of Oeiras.
