Race raises funds for philanthropic breast cancer hospital

The IBCC Oncology will hold the 62nd edition of the Breast Cancer Run and Walk on October 12 (Sunday) in Ibirapuera Park, in the south of São Paulo. This is one of the most traditional street races on the city's calendar. The event will feature 3.5 km (walking) and 5 km (running) and 10 km (running) races, with an expected draw of 15,000 participants.
According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women; however, when diagnosed early, it has a 95% cure rate. The race is part of the "Breast Cancer in Fashion's Target" campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the disease and raise funds for the treatment of patients receiving care through the Unified Health System (SUS).

"The event creates a sense of community around the cause. By bringing together diverse people to spread breast cancer awareness, the event promotes the exchange of experiences, emotional support, and a stronger sense of community. The energy and engagement of the participants demonstrate the strength of unity in support of such an important cause," comments Jefferson Verçosa, general manager of IBCC Oncologia.
The funds raised will be donated to IBCC Oncologia, a philanthropic hospital located in Mooca, a leading provider of breast cancer treatment through the Unified Health System (SUS). With the campaign's support, the hospital performs approximately 420 surgeries, 1,500 mammograms, and over 8,000 consultations per month, primarily benefiting women in the public health system.
Sport, awareness and solidarity
This year's Breast Cancer Run and Walk will reflect the journey of those facing cancer, with five symbolic moments represented by colors and the words: Gratitude, Resilience, Overcoming, Persistence and Grit.
In addition to the activities along the route, special activations were planned, such as a tent with a sticker sheet, with each word of the 5 moments, also including preparation, warm-up and relaxation activities.
"The campaign has a multifaceted impact, from raising awareness about breast cancer and raising funds to strengthening the community around the issue, engaging people to make this topic part of their daily routine when it comes to health," says Verçosa.
