Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci announce separation; find out details of the breakup

American filmmaker Tim Burton and Italian actress Monica Bellucci announced this Friday (19) the end of their relationship in a joint statement.

"It is with great respect and mutual affection that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to separate," the former couple said in a statement sent to AFP.

They met in France in October 2022, during the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, when the actress presented the director with the Lumière Award for his career.

Burton and Bellucci began a relationship the following year, which resulted in a collaboration on "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2024.

In the film, a sequel to Burton's own 1988 macabre comedy "Beetlejuice," the Italian actress plays Delores, an evil Frankenstein-like creature determined to exact revenge on her ex-husband, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton).

Bellucci has two children from her 14-year marriage to French actor and "Irreversible" co-star Vincent Cassel, which ended in 2013. Burton was in a long-term relationship with British actress Helena Bonham Carter until 2014. They also had two children.
