Mr. Bean's Music Club. The unmissable jam sessions in Porto.

Mr. Bean's Music Club. The unmissable jam sessions in Porto.

On Rua da Restauração, in Porto, Mr. Bean's literally has music at its doorstep, immediately welcoming us to a unique experience.

Embracing the pure joy of jazz and improvisation brimming with talent, the house guests, playing without a set program, include New Max from Expensive Soul, Tiago Nacarato, Marisa Liz, HMB, or Áurea.

There are musicians from all the great bands hanging around there. Every day is a surprise, and if you know how to play, you can quickly join these up-and-coming bands and have an unforgettable night.

There are also many foreigners who come and grasp the concept: playing completely improvised, figuring out what the audience wants to continue hearing.

The entrance hall is cramped, with a drum set, a piano, several guitars, and everything else needed for a gathering of talents in epic jam sessions.

The so-called Mecca of music has instruments available for the experience, which are themselves perfect pieces of this unparalleled staging.

Bean's is a popular event among the best surprises in the music world and has followers everywhere.

The music area has the audience right next to it. Down a narrow staircase, behind the drummer, we descend to the bar. A simple counter, with drinks flowing quickly, allowing us to return to the experience.

In the main room there is also a small sofa in the corner, overlooking the occasional bands, where anyone who knows how to play can join in. Next to the door, the makeshift terrace, which then opens onto a view over the river where the traditional houses of the Gaia riverside can be seen, completes the harmony.

The concerts and jam sessions have sparked interest among those who enjoy experiencing the full range of sounds and are frequently broadcast on YouTube – in fact, they have a legion of followers worldwide.

Phillip Lassiter, trumpeter for Prince's band, who has also worked with Kirk Franklin and Ariana Grande, will be performing this Friday, November 7th. He's another artist who heard about the Porto bar and wants the experience of playing there, right in the middle of the crowd, with Portuguese musicians from the Bean's "tribe". The night promises to be great!

Also noteworthy is an interesting fact about the bar's name: Mr. Beans comes from the establishment's previous incarnation, where it served strange and tasty things like bean burgers.

The name and character of the television series – Mr. Bean – are closely linked to a relaxed and highly successful concept.

Mr Bean's Music Club has a Jam Session on Saturday (from 7pm to 1:30am) and a Cozy Jam Session on Sunday (from 6pm to 11:30pm).

Entry costs 5.5 euros and it's advisable to arrive early, as space is limited, but the experience is definitely worth repeating.
