European Archaeology Days celebrated with a themed visit to Quarteira

To mark the European Archaeology Days in Quarteira, the Loulé Municipal Museum is offering a themed visit entitled “Bones also tell stories. The archaeological study of animal remains”, by Soraia Martins, on Saturday 14th June.
The activity takes place at the old Quarteira Fish Market, as part of the exhibition “With our feet on the ground and our hands in the sea: 6000 years of Quarteira’s History”.
The public is invited to celebrate these Archaeology Days with a unique experience of immersion in History, focusing on food and daily life in Quarteira over 6000 years.
The guided tour led by archaeologist Soraia Martins offers a rare opportunity to learn more about Zooarchaeology, where the remains of animal bones, once discarded, become valuable sources of information that reveal not only the eating habits of past communities, but also their customs, the fauna that existed in the region and the complex relationship between humans and animals over time.
At the same time, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition “With feet on the land and hands in the sea: 6000 years of Quarteira’s History”.
This exhibition, rich in artefacts and information, complements the thematic visit, offering a comprehensive perspective on the evolution of culture and society in Quarteira, from its beginnings to the present day.
“This is an unmissable initiative for anyone interested in history, archaeology and the fascinating stories that traces of the past can tell us”, invites Loulé City Council.
