Contraband Festival awarded Tourism Innovation Prize

The Smuggling Festival, a joint initiative of the Alcoutim City Council and the Sanlúcar de Guadiana City Council , was awarded the 2025 Tourism Innovation Prize, awarded by the Destino Huelva Agency and the Provincial Council of Huelva, in a ceremony that will take place on September 25, in Sanlúcar de Guadiana.

The award, which will be presented during the 2025 Provincial Tourism Awards Gala, recognizes the innovative and cross-border nature of this festival, which over the years has established itself as an example of cultural, tourism and institutional cooperation between Portugal and Spain, valuing local identity and creativity as drivers of sustainable development.

Remember that the Contraband Festival was born in 2017, as an original way to recover the memories of border life, through immersive experiences, seasonal markets and the pedestrian crossing over the Guadiana River.

Since then, it has attracted thousands of visitors and generated economic, social and media impact in the territory of the two municipalities.
