A serious problem at a European airport. Tourists must watch out for bedbugs

Bed bugs are usually associated with seedy hostels or old hotels. Sometimes we end up in such places without even realizing it and want to run away. Right now, we may have similar feelings at an airport in Spain. This invasion is getting bigger and bigger.

Bed bugs at the airport

The problem concerns primarily the Barajas port in Madrid. Of course, we are talking about a well-known place, after all, Madrid is the capital of Spain located in the central part of the country. It tempts tourists for many reasons, including its monuments, but also beautiful views - the city is located on the Castilian Plateau, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, on the Manzanares River. The first contact with this area can currently be quite unpleasant.

The bedbug infestation at Barajas Airport is a real problem. It is closely linked to the homelessness problem, as many homeless people spend the night there . Up to 500 people are camping out, mainly in Terminal 4, and that is enough for the bedbugs to start appearing there too, and then spreading further.

The presence of bedbugs in some parts of the terminal was confirmed by the airport operator AENA. It is known that a pest control company was hired on site as a result.

The problem embarrasses the locals

The problem with bedbugs at the Spanish airport is being noticed by the authorities and is being commented on more and more often by local media. For the locals, the situation is embarrassing. "This disgraceful news has spread around the world and has further damaged our precious tourist image," commented the ABC daily.

Concerns about Spain's tourist image were expressed, among others, by the President of the Community of Madrid and Laura Martinez Cerro, responsible for tourism in the region.

There are no illusions that as long as the homeless camp at the port, the bedbugs will return. Ayuso called on the central government to take action. She stressed that among the homeless there may be asylum seekers. The government denies such information and says that the problem of the homeless should be dealt with by regional authorities.
